SCREEN: The Final Countdown

After contacting 150 high schools and evaluating over 100 submissions, Pacifica’s 8th annual Screen Student Film Festival is fast approaching.

Every year, Screen has gotten stronger in submissions, attendance, and prestige, and this year is without a doubt the strongest of them all. Pacifica’s own Digital Production kids have taken on the rolls of associate producers of Screen, spending weeks screening submissions from high schools all over California. Whether they be light comedies, inspiring documentaries, or heavy dramas, the film department has gotten them all.

So many of the 100+ films were held with such high regard that the associate producers, all passionate about film, had lengthy debates defending their favorites. Nonetheless, the 21 finalists that will be shown at the 2015 Screen Film Festival were announced last week: .

Not only have the finalists been revealed, but the guest and keynote speakers, both active in the industry, have also been unveiled. Spencer Locke, Hollywood actress known for the Resident Evil movies, is set to start off the night. Locke got her start as a child star in several hit TV shows like Phil of the Future, Monster House, and Ned’s Declassified, so it will be a treat to hear her transformation from child actor to adult star. Writer/Director Kevin Goetz, known for his work on Scenic Route, is locked as the keynote speaker. His expertise in writing and directing and experience in the industry will kindle the passion of film of the student filmmakers in attendance.

Screen is fast approaching, and the excitement is buzzing. Join the community of young filmmakers this Friday as one of the most anticipated events of Pacifica takes place once again at the Aero Theater.
